Bright Network Internship Experience UK

I was delighted to have taken part in the Bright Network Internship Experience UK in Investment Banking. I was involved in the On-Demand Internship in August. This platform provided students and graduates with networking sessions and an insight into the financial sector by listening to various speakers from financial institutions such J.P. Morgan, HSBC, Goldman Sachs and Bright Network themselves.
By On-Demand, this meant I was able to complete the internship within ten days, compared to those individuals who took part in the same internship early July. The difference between the previous internship was that it was a 3-day live internship where your would would be marked by a peer, also it involved live speakers which you networked with on the day rather than listening to the recorded sessions.
This application process was quite simple in itself, it required a CV and an online application form. I heard back from them within the same week.
The internship involved listening to webinars on how to improve your networking skills, investment strategies, valuation methodologies, introduction to investment banking, investment banking vs product groups, the deal lifecycle and looking at how COVID-19 impacted Goldman Sachs and HSBC. After listening to several representatives and taking detailed notes, you had to complete a sample piece of work. The work was based on what you had previously learnt in the sessions.
You had to create a presentation on a recommendation for an airline company who wished to expand into the low-cost carrier market. The presentation consisted of an analysis of two potential companies which our client was interested in acquiring while considering LBO models, deal lifecycle and the strengths and weaknesses of the companies from performance and business plan to their most recent financial statements.
On completion, you were provided with a self-reflection form and scoring matrix and was given a model presentation where you could compare your work. Afterwards, you received a certificate from Bright Network which you could put on your CV (how good?!).
Bright Network is a great platform which helps bring together a community of students and graduates across the UK with virtual internships, networking events, law fairs, CV and application advice. They have upcoming events taking place soon, so make sure you check out their website.
I learnt more about the role of a investment banker and the daily tasks they undertake. I had learnt more than I expected and I am excited to utilise these skills in the future.
If you would like a copy of my notes from this internship, feel free to drop me a message via the contact page and I will reply to you shortly.
